Jesus spricht: „Ich bin gekommen, 

damit sie das Leben haben und es in Fülle haben“ (Joh 10,10b)

- so lautet das Leitwort unserer Diakonenweihe. Was jedoch ist Leben in Fülle? Leben in Fülle bedeutet eine echte Beziehung mit Gott, denn „Gott lebt und gibt Leben“, wie Hermann Kardinal Volk es einmal ausgedrückt hat. Diese Zusage, die an jeden von uns gerichtet ist, kann uns auch in schwierigen Zeiten Kraft und Zuversicht geben auch über den Tod hinaus. Auch im Dienst des Diakons soll diese Zusage deutlich werden. Der Diakon verkündet sie, und er soll sie leben in der tätigen Nächstenliebe. Weil wir diese Zusage Gottes auch in unserem Leben erfahren durften, wollen wir sie als Diakone weitergeben.

Jesus says: "I came that they may have life,

and have it abundantly" (John 10,10b, NRSV).

- that is the motto of our diaconate ordination. But what is life in abundance? Life in abundance means a genuine relationship with God, because "God lives and gives life", as Hermann Cardinal Volk once put it. This promise, which is addressed to each one of us, can give us strength and confidence in difficult times, and even beyond death. This promise should also become clear in the ministry of the deacon. The deacon proclaims it and is to live it out in active love of neighbour. Because we have experienced this promise of God in our lives, we want to pass it on as deacons.

Gesù dice: "Io sono venuto,

perché abbiano la vita e l'abbiano in abbondanza" (Giovanni 10,10).

- questo è il motto della nostra ordinazione diaconale. Ma cos'è la vita in abbondanza? La vita in abbondanza significa una vera relazione con Dio, perché "Dio vive e dà la vita", come disse una volta Hermann Cardinale Volk. Questa promessa, rivolta a ciascuno di noi, può darci forza e fiducia anche nei momenti difficili, anche oltre la morte. Questa promessa dovrebbe diventare chiara anche nel ministero del diacono. Il diacono lo proclama e deve viverlo nella carità attiva. Poiché abbiamo sperimentato questa promessa di Dio nella nostra vita, vogliamo trasmetterla come diaconi.
