For over 600 years, the Basilica of St. Martin has shaped the cityscape of Bingen am Rhein, the place of work of Saint Hildegard von Bingen.

Approx. 80 years after the destruction of the basilica due to the war and 70 years after its restoration, it is unfortunately time to renovate the historic building in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley World Heritage Site. Damage to the tower and the entire roof cladding can not be postponed. The project involves an investment of approx. 5 million Euros. Since the public sector unfortunately does not provide any support with a single Euro, we are more dependent than ever on private support through your donations. We would like to ask you to do so and give you the opportunity to make your contribution to the preservation of the Basilica minor St. Martin zu Bingen. Thank you very much and God bless you!

Buildings like this have always been built and maintained by and with the citizens of the civil community. The church building tradition at this place goes back far into the Carolingian period. Our so-called crypt dates back to around the year 1000. The current building was erected from 1410 on, after the great city fire of Bingen in 1403. The Aetherius Stone in the basilica documents Christian life in Bingen for at least 1500 years. The basilica houses important works of art from many centuries. It is dedicated to St. Martin of Tour (St. Martin), the epitome of sharing. Among the important depictions of saints are St. Hildegard von Bingen, after whom our parish, which will be newly founded in 2025, is named, and St. Roch, who is known for Bingen and far beyond. In his honour, the largest Rochus pilgrimage in Europe takes place every year in August. All these facts are our obligation to preserve the cultural heritage and to keep the house of God in an attractive condition for the future. Many thanks for your help!
